Ex-Warners chief David Zaslav tried to write it off for tax, but “Coyote vs. Acme” is having the last laugh it seems.
Gold Derby reports that the Ketchup Entertainment-distributed film has officially been ruled eligible for Best Animated Feature at the 2027 Oscars.
Under Academy rules, to qualify a movie must have animation fill at least 75% of the runtime but adds “pending further review”. The Academy has made a ruling, and the movie has qualified for eligibility.
If it does get nominated, and you can bet there’ll be a push for it, it would mark only the second live-action/animation hybrid ever nominated in the category after “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” and the first Looney Tunes film to score a nomination.
The film, which Ketchup acquired worldwide for $50 million, grossed over $125 million in box-office and scored very good reviews.
If it makes it, the film would find itself likely up against LAIKA’s “Wildwood” and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5”.
